Kaishi Karate School is a welcoming, community-focused Goju-ryu karate school offering classes for children, teenagers, adults and families across North London.
We believe karate is about much more than learning physical techniques. Through supportive, structured training, our students develop confidence, fitness, discipline, resilience and respect, while enjoying being part of the Kaishi community.
Sensei Sheena Amin, 3rd Dan
Kaishi is led by Chief Instructor Sensei Sheena Amin. Sheena has trained with highly respected British and Japanese instructors, both in the UK and during her visits to Japan.
Before becoming a full-time karate instructor, Sheena worked for many years as a social worker within children and families, disability, fostering and adoption services. This experience continues to shape Kaishi’s inclusive, encouraging and child-centred approach.
Sheena’s aim is to help every student enjoy karate, progress at their own pace and achieve more than they thought possible.
Goju-ryu is a traditional Okinawan style of karate founded by Chojun Miyagi. The word “Go” means hard or resilient, while “Ju” means soft or yielding. Goju-ryu combines strong, powerful techniques with controlled movement, balance and adaptability. This balance applies not only to physical karate practice, but also to the development of the mind, body and spirit.
Kaishi Karate School has achieved the Safeguarding Code in Martial Arts, demonstrating our commitment to providing a safe and welcoming environment for children, young people and adults.
Our senior instructors are DBS checked and undertake safeguarding, first-aid and Prevent training. Kaishi holds public liability insurance, and senior instructors also maintain appropriate instructor insurance.
Sheena has completed specialist training in coaching children, alongside her extensive professional experience supporting children and families. The welfare and wellbeing of every Kaishi student are at the heart of everything we do.
Kaishi Karate School began in Edgware and has now been serving families across North London for more than 15 years. Before establishing Kaishi, Sheena taught under the name of White Crane Karate School.
The name Kaishi reflects two ideas that are central to the school: making a new beginning and thinking of others with heart. The torii gate within the Kaishi logo represents the journey each student takes as they move forward in their understanding of karate.
